Deep Pet Thoughts: They Thought They Saw A ... Bobcat?
by Laura Ast
This evening, Amy was have so much fun trying to round up Elsa and Sadie as one dog went one way and the other went the other way. They usually go out on leashes, but Amy put them somewhere and couldn't find them.
Elsa saw the kids behind us and had to go bark at them. She still wouldn't let Amy catch her, though. Anyway, the kids told Amy she should be careful outside and keep a close eye on Elsa and Sadie, because they just saw a bobcat in our yard. They were rounding up their goats because of the bobcat.
The girls told Amy that the guy that lives behind them has bears, moose, elk, deer and turkeys and he has seen cougars out here, but they don't think he's seen a bobcat out here before.
Amy told the girls she had seen a cougar out here. The girls seemed impressed because she'd seen one and disappointed because they hadn't seen one. All this is going on while Sadie went her merry Maltipoo way. Sometimes Sadie is such a ding bat.
The girls told Amy that they had seen the bobcat in the yard next to us, and it was in with the horses.
We have seen the bobcat before, too. The first time we saw it, we were surprised. Tim's mom saw it as she was driving down our driveway and backed up to see if we saw it, too. We had, we said.
This poor bobcat is getting a wild animal reputation. I know, bobcats are wild animals, but this one is the 20 pound bobtail cat that belongs to our next door neighbor. I guess next time we see the kids behind us, we really should tell them that the cat is domesticated and a pet.We don't want it to have an untimely end.
